Leon Reynolds, Program Director ~ Head Coach

Leon has been coaching at Denali for the past 13 years. He used his skills as a competitive gymnast to transition into cheerleading during his senior year in high school. He was able to cheer in college with a full scholarship to the University of Alaska Anchorage and the University of Hawaii-Hilo. Leon also worked for Power Cheerleading and the NCA for several years, teaching clinics and camps around the nation. His passion for the sport and the relationships it creates was the driving force behind the creation of the Denali cheerleading program.

Sandy Reynolds, Program Assistant Director ~ Coach

Sandy has been the owner of Denali Gymnastics for the past 20 years. She is the gym “mom” and keeps everyone smiling and organized while she is around. She has 14 years of cheerleading coaching experience at both the high school and all-star levels and is known for her ability to clean a routine. She was also a member of the National Federation Rules Committee representing the northwest region. She currently coaches the Denali All Stars and has helped them achieve the success that they have today.

Dan Piaskowski, Cheer Coach

Dan has been coaching here at Denali Gymnastics for the past 10 years. His skills as a competitive gymnast helped him to find great success in cheerleading, winning many individual awards and a scholarship to Barton College in Kansas. As a tumbling specialist, his knowledge of tumbling has proven to be an amazing asset to the Denali family and to the teams that he coaches. He currently coaches every age group in the cheer program from youth to the senior advanced and is a huge part in the success of those programs.

Amy Childers, Denali Cheer Coach

Amy has been coaching for the past seven years at Denali Gymnastics. An accomplished gymnast and cheerleader she won the Alaska Top Cheerleader State Award as a junior in high school, as well as many other state and national team awards. She has been a coach for the Denali Rising Stars since their formation in 2003. Amy has used her gymnastic background and her love of the sport of cheerleading to help elevate our programs.

Annie Afusia, Denali Cheer Coach

Annie is our newest addition to the Denali family. As a coach she has proven herself in the state by leading her Pop-Warner teams to 5 consecutive state titles and has been competitive on a national level. Her knowledge of the sport and the ability to build a strong foundation are evenly matched with her desire to excel and a quick, genuine smile. Annie is currently coaching the Rising Star competition team and the Shooting Stars 1 class. We gladly welcome Annie to the Denali family and look forward to her knowledgeable assistance.
